Frequently Asked Questions

Never hired an attorney before? Not sure what to expect?

We try to make the process as unintimidating as possible, because you have enough stress in your life.

For new clients, there is a $225 fee for an initial hour-long case evaluation session that must be paid when scheduling the appointment. This is NOT our standard hourly rate; it is a discounted flat rate specifically for the initial appointment. The attorney will answer your questions and provide a legal assessment and advice during the session. Therefore, the fee is not refundable after the case evaluation session in the event either you or the firm decide not to proceed with your legal matter. We offer a free 30-minute consultation for personal injury matters.

Beyond the initial appointment, the cost of representation differs depending on the case. For some types of civil rights cases, including many discrimination and harassment cases and those alleging violation of constitutional rights, clients do not pay any legal fees up front. Instead, the lawyer is paid a percentage of the amount recovered for the client at the end of the case. In certain cases, a court will order the opposing party to pay some or all of the prevailing plaintiff’s legal fees.

Non-litigation matters, such as drafting policies or negotiating contracts, are billed on an hourly or flat-fee basis. The total fee for these kinds of matters will vary based on a number of factors.

During your initial appointment, we will discuss the fee structure that will apply to your situation. Tahinci Law Firm accepts credit cards and offers payment plans.

Unfortunately, we do not handle these kinds of legal matters.

Having another person present while you meet with your attorney can waive the attorney-client privilege. Therefore, it is best that you meet with your attorney alone.

This varies depending on the kind of case and where you are located. In some cases, you have less than a year — sometimes only months — to file an administrative claim. If you miss this deadline, you may forfeit your right to bring a lawsuit. It is very important that you contact an attorney as soon as possible so that your attorney has enough time to investigate the matter and prepare a complaint on your behalf.

While you technically can represent yourself, the law is complicated, and seemingly small missteps can result in dismissal of your claim. You want an experienced attorney to do things the right way and maximize your chances of financial recovery. Generally speaking, you only get one chance to file a lawsuit, so it’s best to hire a trained advocate whom you trust to represent you.

How long it takes to resolve a legal dispute depends on a lot of factors, including court schedules and the conduct of opposing parties. It can take more than a year, and sometimes several years, for a case to work its way through the litigation process. If a speedy resolution is important to you, your attorney can discuss strategies for moving the process along as quickly as possible. Your attorney will also advise you about the steps of the process and why they are important to maximizing your recovery.
